In the late 1960s, while studying at the university of California at Davis, Christian Moueix fell in love with the Napa Valley and its wines. In 1981, he discovered the historic Napanook Vineyard, a 42 hectare site which provided fruit for some of the finest Napa wines of the 1940s and 1950s. In 1982, Moueix entered into a partnership to develop the vineyard and, in 1995, became its sole owner. The name Dominus, ‘Master’ in Latin, may have been ambitious but turned out to be wholly justified!
"86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc. Now in its fifth vintage, Othello has been described modestly by Christian Moueix as a wine “to be enjoyed with a more casual meal”. Mid-deep ruby in the glass, this has a bright blackberry nose, with a minty lift and fabulous purity. The palate is darkly berried, with rocky/earthy minerality and a touch of sous bois. The tannins are remarkably supple. Ripe fruit lingers on the finish.
