About
This is an insider’s wine to which the cognoscenti remain faithful year after year. The sites are planted on a plateau 130 feet above sea level. One plot, with light, loam-based soils, lies adjacent to our highly-renowned Château La Grave à Pomerol and the other, quite different, lies on deep beds of gravel and clay.
This is the perfect complementary environment for vines which, with an average age of 35 years or more, are able to produce grapes with a diverse spectrum of flavours, thus imparting a complex and appealing structure to the resulting wine. Despite having a profusion of legendary vintages under its belt, little is known of the excellent property – an insider’s wine.

A “stealth” Pomerol, possessed of a quiet greatness of which only insiders are aware. You hardly ever see it on the secondary market, I suspect because, rather happily, it is more drunk than traded. This is a beautiful wine in 2016 with a fat, opaque ruby colour and a supremely confident perfume of fresh, dark fruits, very pure, very pointed, almost summer pudding like. The palate is effortlessly balanced, with a supple, dark concentration, an almost casual profundity and a sweet finish of almost sublime length. Beautiful wine

Deep ruby coloured and an outstanding result in 2014, this has a startlingly fresh red fruit nose, almost atmospheric but weirdly, profound and rooted at the same time. The palate mirrors this but possesses a delectable density with layered, succulent juicy (that word again) fruits, a grainy but balanced structure and a long, intense finish. A very, very good Latour.

Deepest ruby in colour. The nose is carapaced with just a few flashes of latent, profound, darkest red, earthy fruit. The palate has a quality that I always associate with great wine, a layered impression of flavours rolling out across the palate. Silkily dry in its concentration (well below the more obvious juicy fruit) this is compacted in structure, fresh, elegantly flavoured and very long. That length balloons in the mouth rather impressively.
