About
With 9.5 hectares in one block, this domaine is the largest single vineyard holding and exactly that gifted to the Abbé of Saulieu by the Emperor Charlemagne in 775AD. This produces one of the very greatest Grand Cru white Burgundies – offering length, concentration, incomparable finesse and purity, and, by consequence of the domaine’s terroir, a unique luminosity. There is also a tiny 1.5 hectare of Pinot Noir, producing Grand Cru Corton. The vines are very old, the yields correspondingly low, the wines intense.
Bonneau du Martray changed hands in January 2017, only the fourth time in twelve centuries, when a majority interest was purchased by celebrated American vineyard proprietor and businessman E. Stanley Kroenke. The 2016 vintage marked the end of Jean-Charles le Bault de la Morinière’s highly successful tenure and the beginning of an exciting new era with new manager Thibault Jacquet. Previously of Laurent-Perrier in Asia, he is young, dynamic and imbued with the spirit of this great domaine.
