The sisters have recently having taken over from their highly respected father Thierry Matrot, who had made the wines here for over three decades. Indeed, Thierry is still very much present at the domaine, lending evidence to the theory that Burgundian vignerons never actually retire… Be that as it may, 2017 is Adèle and Elsa’s second vintage in charge.
The domaine has been totally organic since 2000, making both reds and whites. In recent vintages it has been hit particularly hard by hail and frost, which makes the more normal yields this year particularly gratifying here.

2017 - 2027 - Brokered
Very brilliant plum-ruby, reminiscent of Venetian glass, this has intriguing complexity on the nose, blackberry, blueberry and crème de mûre - very classical and very pure. The aromatics are replicated on the palate, very much at the darker fruit end of the spectrum, brooding and spicy with ferrous, earthy, mineral undertones, all of which lead through a long, controlled finish - stylish.

2019 - 2026 - Brokered
"This is generally Chardonnay territory, which is a more lucrative choice, but Pinot Noir thrives here - an insider’s wine of old for us. This has a darker, more serious nose again, earthy mineral notes adding gravitas. Serious in style, black fruit, violet potpourri, tea box and cedar suddenly give way to red berry intensity - really fresh, perfumed and then structured on a caramelised finish.

2020 - 2028 - Brokered
The wine comes from a plot directly beneath the wood of Blagny, hence the name. Although mostly Chardonnay territory, Pinot Noir also lives here. We are delighted with this 2015 example. Unassuming dark berries on the nose lead into a palate of beautifully immediate resonant blackberries, conjuring up autumn walks through the countryside. Blackcurrant, very ripe tannins and then a fresh finish.
