The Wehlener Sonnenuhr (sundial) vineyard holdings lie directly opposite the Prüm house -something of a distraction when tasting as one imagines working on such vertiginous slopes. This is the jewel in the crown of Joh. Jos. Prüm. …and thankfully working in these vines is not part of our brief…happily for the vines that is. Goldkapsel, referring to the gold capsule around the neck of these bottles, is an unregulated term in Germany, but has become widely used in the Mosel to denote an additional level of quality.
"The Prüm wines are, in essence, beautifully formed but here we have something rather exquisite. There’s a smoky note allied to apricots and flowers. The texture is that of liquid porcelain, taut, almost painfully pure and noble, with refined acidity and minerality. only 7.5% alcohol
