Ambriel beautiful wine estate spans over 9.5ha in the village of Nutbourne, West Sussex. It was founded in 2006 by married couple Wendy & Charles Outhwaite, self-professed wine lovers who left respectable careers in London, to pursue their dream of making their own English sparkling wines. This is a small-scale, hands-on enterprise with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard and winery. Planted with classic Champagne varieties over highly-prized greensand soil, following organic principles, promoting biodiversity and carrying all operations by hand, Wendy and Charles produce fine sparkling wines encapsulating the British essence. They also promote extensive lees ageing to gain complexity in favour and texture.

It is thought that the Romans first introduced vines to England, however due to a combination of poor climate and the strong trading links with France and Italy (leading to a ready supply of wine), wine-making never really took off. Fast forward a few centuries and wine making is now a burgeoning industry because of improved wine making techniques and climate change.
