In amongst all the excitement of Christmas Day, there is one thing we can all look forward to: Christmas dinner. The ultimate excuse to indulge in fine wine, food and make merry!
Traditional roast turkey is perfect with rich and buttery whites such as the eve Chardonnay – for a classic pairing opt for Mâcon-Villages Domaine de la Jobeline 2019, white peach and creamy pear intermingled with ripe citrus fruit and toasty hints make for an upbeat and succulent Burgundian white. Or try a richer style from one of Napa Valley’s most respected producers, Chardonnay Cakebread Cellars 2021 is brimming with golden apples and Asian pears muddled with toasted vanilla, mineral layers and a sprinkling of spice. Alternatively, a light and fruity red such as Pinot Noir can also hit the spot – grab a bottle or two of Pinot Noir Eradus 2022 with its bright berry fruit, silky palate and fresh finish, this is a very stylish New Zealand red!
For anyone tucking into a nut roast or beef wellington, Château Barrail du Blanc Grand Cru Saint-Émilion is a fabulous Merlot-dominant red from one of the world’s most renowned producers, without breaking the bank. Plummy notes are entwined with a red and black fruit medley, layered with spices and tobacco hints. Better still, this is also available in magnums – the perfect table centrepiece to keep the wine flowing!
