Olivier Leflaive started his own négociant business in Puligny Montrachet in 1984, with the help of his brother Patrick and his uncle Vincent of Domaine Leflaive. Olivier’s idea was to apply all of his knowledge and skill to make high quality wines from different appellations all over Burgundy.

In order to attain this level of quality, Olivier knew he needed to work in a different way to most other négociants. From the very beginning, he and winemaker Franck Grux, have developed good relationships with all of their growers and work on long term contracts with the same people, year after year. They are very much involved in every step of the winemaking process, from the vineyard to the winery. Franck visits all of the vineyards most days and works with the growers throughout the year to help produce the best fruit possible. At the time of harvest, Franck will receive the grapes or must from each grower and then has complete control and responsibility for the vinification and maturation of every cuvée.

Olivier Leflaive make a huge range of wines, covering many different appellations and tiers; Franck has developed a house style that runs through them all. In his 20 years with Olivier Leflaive he has acquired a great understanding of all of the vineyards and manages to find a way of expressing each one of them perfectly.
