Vineyard
18.5 hectares
You could say that Domaine Hubert Lamy put Saint-Aubin on the map. We were delighted to add these brilliant wines to our roster during the small 2016 vintage. The domaine has 18.5 hectares of vines, 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. Beyond Saint-Aubin, it has holdings in Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay. The Lamy family has been making wine in Saint-Aubin since 1640, however, it was not until 1973 that Hubert Lamy established the domaine. At that time, the estate consisted of around eight hectares of vines, with several new plots being added during the 1990s. Olivier Lamy, son of Hubert, joined the domaine in 1995 and over the past three decades has taken the wines to new heights.

TASTING NOTES
SAINT-AUBIN LA PRINCÉE
Olivier Lamy calls La Princée a “sous-lieu-dit”. It is a blend of ten plots, mostly cool sites, covering three hectares around St-Aubin. The vines here were planted in 1985 and 2000. Although La Princée can take some time to emerge from its shell, I found the 2022 open and inviting when tasted in November 2024. White peach fruit and red apple skin aromas, leading into a bright and supple palate, which comes to a taut and focussed point on the finish. Salty-mineral, racy and silky, with bags of energy — exciting wine.

SAINT-AUBIN 1ER CRU DERRIÈRE CHEZ ÉDOUARD
This is a 1.68-hectare lieu-dit planted in 2000 at a density of 14,000 vines per hectare (the Haute- Densité cuvée is from a plot planted at 30,000 vines per hectare). The ‘Édouard’ in the wine’s name lived beside this vineyard. He was the Mayor of Beaune, and his house was clearly a local landmark. White marl soils, “like Chevalier and Corton-Charlemagne,” in Olivier’s words. A mute nose, with reticent waxy lemon notes, but then the palate is wonderfully bright, offering white peach and a hint of green melon, then grapefruit on the finish.

SAINT-AUBIN 1ER CRU EN REMILLY
This is a blend of two parcels within En Remilly. The principal parcel is high-elevation, located just above Chevalier-Montrachet, and imparts a silex/smoky style, together with full fruit ripeness. The 2.02 hectares of vines here were planted by Hubert Lamy in 1989. This is very hard limestone, with almost no soil. As Olivier said, you need to be very precise with picking here as the maturity increases rapidly at the end of the season. A fabulous nose which recalls the grands crus of Puligny — fine white peach and very gentle matchstick reduction, with a hint of honeysuckle. On the taut and energic palate, zesty lime rind and waxy lemon. What a wine.

CHASSAGNE-MONTRACHET ROUGE LA GOUJONNE VIEILLES VIGNES
La Goujonne, a red Chassagne-Montrachet, has become a favourite over the six vintages we have been working with it. It comes from a deep, clay-rich holding of 1.06 hectares in the centre of the appellation, which confers density on the wines. The vines were planted in 1950. Dark forest fruit aromas, open and peppery. The palate offers plum and bitter cherry, with violet and earthy minerality.
