Domaines Leflaive

Domaines Leflaive En Primeur 2019

Domaines Leflaive (with an ‘s’) is Domaine Leflaive’s operation in the Mâconnais. The domaine’s first vintage here, of Mâcon-Verzé, was in 2004.

The original holdings totalled 9.3 hectares, consisting of five plots: Les Chênes, En Perret, Le Monté, Escolles and Les Muses. Les Chênes and Le Monté are now produced as single vineyard cuvées, alongside a new wine from Mâcon-Igé, the village to the immediate north and, from this vintage, a Macon-Solutré.

Corney & Barrow is the exclusive agent in the UK and Singapore. The 2018s were released in the Domaine Leflaive offer in December. Click here to see the offer.

MÂCON-VERZÉ

This, the starter for ten of the four little Macon jewels is perhaps the most rounded, the most approachable and represents the heart of the Domaine’s Mâcons, in no way diminished by the more individual, glittering offshoots of the single vineyard wines.

Zesty, lemony fruit on the nose, almost piercing, with a hint of yeasty cream. The palate is both taut and rich with beautiful acidity, a lightness of touch to the natural weight of the fruit and a good dancing length – perfect really.

Corney & Barrow Score 17

VOLNAY 2019

This wine comes from four plots, two purchased in 1995 and two in 2010, in the middle of the appellation: two in Les Lurets, one in Les Famines and another in Les Paux Bois. A delicate, pure berried nose of raspberry and roses, laced with winter spice. The palate is crisp and harmonious, with poised raspberry fruit and a rocky mineral aspect, with lingering blue-fruited perfume. 100% destemmed.

POMMARD 1ER CRU LES ARVELETS 2019

Les Arvelets is a 0.5 hectare south-facing sloping vineyard beside the domaine’s cuverie, whose red clay soils give high ripeness levels. Blackberry and blackcurrant on the nose, with nice undergrowthy aromas. The palate is pure-fruited, with blackberry and raspberry flavours delivering an impressive clarity of expression. Perfectly weighted, rich but with a sense of lightness, the fruit held in place by fine supporting tannins.
